They had ten children. Two died as children.

They were living on the Skratalsrud farm in Trøgstad when their son Peder Oskar was christened in January 1883. They appear to have recorded older birthdates for themselves in the church record. His was recorded as 28/5 51 and hers was recorded as 30/12 58.

They were living on the Grimsrud farm in Trøgstad when their daughter Nelly was christened in May 1888.

They were living on the Nygaard farm in Trøgstad by the time their son Thomas Ludvig was christened in August 1894. Julius was then calling himself Nygaard. They were there when their daughter Borghild was christened in October 1897. The farm was near the Bingen farm, "Nygaard ved Bingen".

They were living on Sandem in December 1903 and on Slårstad (?) in March 1908, according to the records of their children's christenings.

In the census for 1910 Julius and Johanne owned and farmed Maradalen in Eidsberg. They had 2 sons (Tomas and Borgi), 2 daughters (Gulborg and Minni) and a granddaughter (Gunhild Kristiansen) with them.
